How many colors of stain options do you have? Our pergola kits come pre-stained. Although there are hundreds of stain options we narrowed down our options to black, brown and natural cedar. These colors do a great job of matching most exterior color schemes. We found that sometimes too many options can be a bad thing for decision making.

How is your pergola design different than others?99% of all other pergola kits come with flat tops on the structure. Which means you cannot add a roof on top because...well roofs need slope. Bummer!! Our pergola kits come with our custom B.Y.P.K. brackets which provide a 2% slope on the top of our rafters. This is the minimum slope required for our roof to properly drain water off your pergola. In fact we are the only pergola kit that comes with the industry leading Cover Your Pergola "Hercules" roofing system. Other pergola kits cut costs by using smaller pieces of lumber. Leading to pergolas that just feel flimsy. Our pergola kits come with hardware and brackets that make it STURDY. Our pergola roof is rated to withstand more than 125 mile per hour winds. And even though we do not have wind ratings on our structure at the moment, look at this video to see just how sturdy and strong our pergola structures are!

How does the sun movement effect the shade from my pergola? When choosing your size, type, and placement of your pergola there are a few things to consider. One consideration is the movement of the sun. In the middle of day, when the sun is at its highest, the sun will cast a shadow directly under your pergola. But as the sun sets or rises the shade of your pergola will move away from the center of your pergola. Keep this in mind when choosing the location and orientation of your pergola. If you think you will use your pergola more in the afternoons, then consider if the shade from your structure at that time of day will be cast in your preferred location.

Western Red Cedar vs Pressure Treated Pine?Western red cedar is a soft red/brown color with a tight straight grain and very few knots. This wood does not twist, bow, or warp like some other woods. Cedar is known for its natural resistance to decay and appearance attributes. Pressure Treated Pine is wood that is immersed in a water-based chemical bath of preservatives. Pressurization then forces the liquid deep into the wood. The wood then is dried naturally or in a kiln to evaporate the water out, leaving the preservatives behind. These preservatives help the pine to be resistant to decay. Pressure treated pine is usually a more affordable wood option for exterior use. If you want our opinion, go with the cedar!

What is a pergola "attached -to-wall"?We love our freestanding pergolas, but we recognize that many scenarios call for your pergola to be as close to your house as possible. You could always build a freestanding pergola right next to your house. Or you could attach it to the exterior wall. This is a great option for those who may not want a post blocking their window. Your house roof is leak-proof, our pergola roof is leak-proof, but we do not warranty a leak-proof connection between your house and the pergola kit because we are not the ones professionally installing it. Instead, we recommend you hire a professional to properly flash the kit into your house if you are looking for a 100% leak proof connection. Our kit includes a method for flashing that is very DIY friendly and if done per our instructions you will not need to hire a professional. But this method does not provide any leak-proof guarantee.

What is a pergola "attached-to-roof"?We love our freestanding pergolas, but we recognize that many scenarios call for your pergola to be as close to your house as possible. You could always build a freestanding pergola right next to your house. Or you could attach it to the top of your roof. This is a great option for those who may not want a post blocking their window. Or for those who have obstructions that do not let them mount to the exterior wall such as pipes, windows, low roofs, etc. Keep in mind that this kit option will still allow rainwater from your existing roof to flow under the pergola. So, we recommend that you have gutters on your existing roof to help divert water while it's raining.

Do you have a warranty?Ehh the boring stuff. Not because we don’t honor our warranties, but because you will read the next few sentences and probably never have to use it. Our pergola kits have a 10-year warranty which includes the structure and the roofing! For more detailed information regarding our warranty, see below.
-
What if I need a permit to build my pergola?Every jurisdiction has a different set of requirements for when a permit is required. It is your responsibility to confirm the codes in your area. For example, here in San Antonio, TX a permit is only required if your structure is larger than 300 sqft. Our largest pergola is 276 sqft so a permit is not required for this scenario. Your HOA also might have different set of rules and requirements. If you need drawings to obtain a permit from your city or to get approval from your HOA, we will happily send you a copy of the pergola kit drawings when requested.

What happens if my pergola kit arrives with damages? We put a lot of care into making sure your kit stays damage free on its way to you. Below are the steps to follow when receiving your pergola kit. If you immediately notice the entire crate and the kit inside of it are just destroyed (this never happens, but if it did) then take pictures and reject the order from delivery. Do not sign that you received it and do not allow the delivery crew to unload it. Give us a call and we will get it resolved and a replacement kit sent out asap. If you notice some bumps and bruises on the crate, do not worry. Shipping any kind of large crate via freight will result in the exterior of the pallets getting some chips and scratches, but that’s exactly why we build crates around them. Let the delivery crew unpackage and unload the kit onto your property. Visually inspect the kit parts as they come off the truck. Every kit will come with a packing slip that has a list of all the parts included in your kit. Make sure to review the list and check that all parts are included. If you notice any immediate damage on certain boards, please take a picture and contact us and we will get a replacement sent out asap. If any damage is caused during the unloading process by the delivery crew. Please take a picture and document it on the copy of the BOL that you will sign when receiving the delivery. You have 24 hours to report any damage that was found on the parts of your kit. You also have 24 hours to report any missing pieces to your kit. Anything reported after that will not guarantee free replacement parts. Do not wait till a week after your delivery to inspect and count that all your parts were sent.

Are their limitations to where I can ship?We cannot ship to PO boxes. Shipping addresses must be a physical location. They must be able to provide access for a box truck to pull in.
-
Can I pay now and have it shipped at a later date?Yes once your order is placed, contact us and we can discuss specific delivery dates that meet your schedule.
-
Do you offer assembly/install or can I assemble myself? If you are in San Antonio or surrounding areas, hit us up. Our team of rock stars can assemble that kit in no time. For everyone else in the U.S., we unfortunately do not offer assembly services at the moment. But rest assured, our kits were literally designed with every DIY person in mind. All you will need are two able bodied people and a few hours. If you can assemble IKEA furniture, then you definitely can follow our easy-to-follow instructions. An easy to follow instruction manual is sent with each kit. A digital copy is also emailed to you when your order is placed so you have time to study it before you receive your kit.
-
Do the posts of the pergola need to attach to anything? Our kits are designed to be anchored into a concrete footing or foundation. We do not recommend you just place them on top of the ground or attach them on top of landscaping pavers. If you have a deck that you are attaching them on top of, you will need to substitute the post base concrete anchors for an appropriate wood anchor or post base bracket.
-
What if my pergola arrives before I am ready to assemble it?If you are not ready to install your pergola kit when it arrives, we recommend you find a safe and dry place to store it. You can store it in your garage or in the backyard of your house. We prefer that you place a plastic tarp over it to protect rain from collecting in all the crevices of the kit and sitting there. If you have a cedar kit, then you don’t need to worry as much. But if you choose pressure treated lumber it’s always a good idea to assemble the kit as soon as possible so you don’t have to worry about the lumber warping before you assemble it.
-
Is everything included in the pergola kit that I need to assemble it?Our pergola kits have the material and hardware included that you will need to assemble. All the screws and brackets are included. For the post we provide post base plates with concrete anchors. For the structure we provide the brackets and screws For the "attached to wall" kits we provide our recommended anchors to attach to wood or masonry. But it is your responsibility to determine the appropriate structural anchor needed based on the building codes in your area and the surface onto which you are mounting. For the "attached to roof kits we provide PRR roof risers and the associated anchors that allow you to attached to your shingle or metal roof.
